The skull has featured in Jade’s collections for almost two decades and as the longest standing motif and best selling range it has indeed become a stone cold classic.

“I’ve had a long-standing love for skulls and the way, at first glance, they look like beads in the rosary context.” says Jade

In no way morbid, they are meant as an affirmation of “life” and with a rock and roll edge; in ancient societies skulls represent "life” and the honoring of humanity in the flesh, and the embodiment of consciousness.

In Elizabethan England, the skull in jewelled form was worn by the Rakes as a signal of their devotion to hedonistic pursuits; and throughout the history of art the skull has featured as symbol, metaphor and icon, for artists pondering the meaning of life and the complexities of emotion.

When worn as jewel or tattoo, the skull can be seen as an aide to it’s outlaw-wearer, in cheating death and the natural order of things.

Its form serves as a visual aphorism and reminds all who gaze upon it “carpe diem!”.
